The objective of the work was first of all to provide, for each of the biotic and abiotic components of the current marine environment monitoring plan, a critical analysis and an inventory of the monitoring work that has been prescribed to VALE NC on the basis of regulatory or conventional considerations in relation to the available historical data. The voluntary initiatives taken by VALE NC to supplement its regulatory and conventional environmental monitoring system, on its own initiative or on external recommendations, were also the subject of a detailed analysis, since the results presented were also included in the study’s reference summary document, namely the annual report of the 2013 monitoring campaign.
