The Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) and the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) launched the Medfish project in 2015. This project is divided into 3 phases. Phase 1, finalised today, aimed to map 100 French and Spanish Mediterranean fisheries. Of these 100 fisheries, 14 (7 per country) have been selected for Phase 2 to carry out a more comprehensive assessment using the sustainability criteria of the MSC Fisheries Standard. Phase 3, which will be held in the first half of 2017, will aim to identify among the 14 fisheries, those that can claim MSC certification (sustainable fisheries label), and for the others to formalize action plans so that they move towards sustainability.
