The LabMAF project (Development of a labelling framework for small-scale fishery products in the Mediterranean) explored the potential of markets and valorisation mechanisms to revive and support the social, economic and environmental sustainability of small-scale fisheries in the Mediterranean. This project was funded as part of the Bluemed Start Up Actions program launched in 2018. The Bluemed funding covered the material costs related to the meetings between the LabMAF consortium and external experts as well as the costs related to the dissemination of the project results. Substantive preparatory work was carried out prior to each meeting, as well as research and debriefing following the meetings. The authors would like to highlight the funding of their home institutions to support their personal involvement in the project.

Project description
Role of Marepolis
As a partner, MarePolis contributed to the general reflection of the project, to its working meetings (especially in Lebanon) and presented a French case study. The latter is supported by the GOLION economic interest group (fishermen small trades of the Gulf of Lion) created in 2013 and which promotes the diversity of small-scale fishery products in the French Mediterranean under the collective brand GOLION (self-label).
